Pemanfaatan Botol Plastik Bekas sebagai Pembatas Taman Mini TPS Menteng I Palangka Raya

Abstract

Plastic waste constitutes a persistent environmental issue, particularly in temporary waste disposal sites where used plastic bottles tend to accumulate and remain insufficiently utilized. This community service activity was conducted at TPS Menteng I, Palangka Raya, with the aim of describing the utilization process of used plastic bottles as mini garden borders and examining its contribution to improving the environmental condition of the surrounding area. The activity employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data and information obtained through direct observation, interviews, community socialization, and documentation. The implementation consisted of several stages, including identification of environmental conditions at the TPS, collection and sorting of used plastic bottles, cleaning and modification of the materials, preparation of the garden area, construction of the mini garden borders, arrangement of plants, and subsequent maintenance. The results demonstrate that used plastic bottles can be repurposed into functional mini garden borders through a relatively simple and applicable process without requiring complex technology or equipment. The utilization of these bottles provides an alternative function for materials that would otherwise become waste and contributes to reducing the accumulation of plastic bottles around the TPS. Furthermore, the arrangement of the reused bottles and plants resulted in a more orderly and aesthetically improved appearance of the surrounding environment. The involvement of TPS officers and local residents in material collection and garden maintenance indicates the importance of collaborative participation in sustaining the benefits of the activity. Overall, the activity represents a practical implementation of the reuse principle within the circular economy concept and demonstrates an accessible approach to plastic waste management that can be adapted to other TPS locations according to their respective environmental conditions. The activity also provides an opportunity to strengthen community awareness and participation in maintaining environmental cleanliness and promoting more sustainable waste management practices.
